Expressive Arts

Girl's Therapy Group for Girls Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse

The six week Expressive Arts Teen Group series offer a safe place for survivors to turn toward that which seems unbearable and find community, breaking the silence and altering the pattern of isolation and shame. Feelings that once were locked up deep inside become shareable and there is a recognition "I am not alone." In a non-judgmental environment we explore resources, supports, coping skills, helping each individual remember how he or she survived the abuse. Through the use of creative writing, expressive arts and body awareness we work through traumatic memories, supporting participants to reconnect to their strengths, integrate painful experiences and reclaim disowned aspects of self.

Trainings for Service Providers

Survivors Healing Center is launching a new and vital training program: Creating Safe Communities: A Training on Child Sexual Abuse. It is an invaluable tool that will strengthen organizational understanding of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA).

A recent participant working in the Probation Department of Santa Cruz County said:

"Well presented training, (I)really liked the interactive exercises, (it) helped to gain a better sense of the victim's perceived self-image and emotional issues that result from sexual abuse."

Creating Safe Communities: A Training on Child Sexual Abuse has multiple benefits. Our uniquely designed program provides professional trainings to build awareness, recognize the symptoms of CSA, develop empathy, and provide tools that will allow your agency to work more effectively with survivors. Topics will include a History of CSA, Effects, Healing Tools, Cultural Considerations, Prevention, and more.

Trainings designed for:

  • Religious Institution
  • Drug and Rehabilitation Program
  • School
  • Medical Institution
  • Youth and Family Agency
  • Group Home
  • Criminal Justice Program
  • And more!

Walk to Stop the Silence

Walk to Stop the Silence takes place in the City of Watsonville during "April National Child Abuse Awareness Month." The goal of the Walk to Stop the Silence is to increase awareness of child sexual abuse in our community and reach out to those victimized. Survivors Healing Center encourages families, service providers, churches, community members and law enforcement to come and join us.

Peer Support Groups

SHC has space available for groups of various kinds. Would you like to work with other survivors in a peer facilitated writing group? How about a book discussion group? A twelve-step group? Please contact the center with your ideas and we will do what we can to nurture the development of resources that support your healing.

Survivors of Incest Anonymous (SIA)

SIA is a modified twelve-step group with international support from its World Service Office. While SIA itself is not affiliated with Survivors Healing Center, the weekly Santa Cruz meeting is held at the Center:

  • For Men & Women Sundays, 7:30-9:00 pm at Survivors Healing Center

As with other twelve-step groups, all SIA meetings are free of charge. They are open to any survivor of child sexual abuse and to those supporting such survivors, but not to those who are currently perpetrating such abuse. For more information, SIA voicemail is at (831) 477-4165.
